The task was simple: make a cookbook that feels like more than a cookbook. In other words, to design and produce a simple collection of recipes into a compelling editorial experience. Centered on the versatility of lemons, the challenge was not only to share recipes but also to offer an experience that celebrates creativity, freshness, and the joy of cooking with zest.

The concept leans into the idea of a personal citrus journal, inviting readers to move through the book as if flipping through my own memories of learning to cook with lemon. Growing up, lemons were a constant in my mom’s kitchen, and that sense of nostalgia and discovery shaped the visual storytelling. The direction is fresh, light, and joyful: airy photography, a soft yellow-green palette, and minimalist layouts that let the content breathe, allowing the recipes and personal moments to unfold naturally across the pages.

The final design embraces simplicity, highlighting the craft of the object. A clear, straightforward grid keeps the recipes intuitive, while thoughtful typography and warm imagery give lemons presence and personality. The book was printed on matte stock and bound using the secret Belgian binding technique, creating an exposed spine and vibrant threads that feel tactile, homemade, and full of character. Through testing papers, refining materials, and hands-on assembly, the result becomes less like a polished cookbook and more like a bright, handcrafted culinary journal, as personal and layered as the memories behind it. To extend the experience beyond print, a promotional website was designed as a teaser for the publication, inviting audiences into the world of lemons and encouraging them to discover the limited-edition cookbook.
